To Scale Frame Mockups in Affinity Designer for iPad V2
Join teacher Tracey Capone, and learn how to create to scale frame mockups using the Measure tool and Drawing Scale in Affinity Designer for iPad V2.
When selling online, crafting a great listing gets buyers in the door. Mockups play crucial role in helping to sell your work, allowing the buyer to better visualize your work.
In this class, you'll learn how you can create to scale mockups that not only complement your work but elevate it.
With all of the mockups for sale, you might be wondering why create your own mockups, rather than purchase them? Great question!
As an Affinity user, you may have noticed, there aren't a lot of mockups out there created in Affinity, for Affinity. While Photoshop mockups can be used, and Smart Objects are recognized, sometimes they don't work exactly the way they were intended and you have to do a lot of rework before the mockup can be used. Creating your own mockups in Affinity Designer means you can rest assured they will work in the entire Affinity suite.
Creating your own custom mockups means that you control the overall feel of them, right down to the background. This allows you to create mockups that complement your work, allowing potential buyers to see it in it's best light.
Being able to create your own mockups will allow you to provide consultation to potential buyers who are undecided and want to see your work up on their walls. With a quick photo of their space, and some measurements, you can create a variety of options for your buyers, allowing them to make a more informed decision. More often than not, for me, this lead to me selling larger prints, and sets rather than single images.
If you participate in art festivals and shows, have a space in a brick and mortar shop, or just want to create a gallery wall in your own home, custom mockups allow you to plan ahead. Being able to mockup the space allows you to work efficiently, with less frustration and, if you're like me... less holes to fill later!
Before we create the frames, we'll take an intentional approach to setting up the base for them...
We'll cover best practices for souring images for your mockups, including what to look for, and what to avoid.
Next, we'll take a look at the basics of the Measure tool, and drawing to scale in Affinity Designer
After that, we'll take a look at three efficiency tools in Affinity Designer, and how they can make the mockup process easier...
We'll start with the assets studio and how to build a library of frame mockups that you always have at your fingertips.
We'll follow that up with a look at Styles, which are presets that allow you to quickly add texture and dimension to your frames.
We'll wrap up the efficiency tools with how to save your mockups as templates that will allow you to open a fresh copy of your mockup over and over, without a lot of rework or overriding those you created previously.
With the basics out of the way, we'll build our frames, from flat vector shapes through to texture and dimension.
We'll look at how you can use drawing scale, along with the Transform panel, to quickly build up a base layer of vector frame shapes.
Then we'll move on to adding texture and dimension using a combination of the Stock Studio, and the fill tools.
